Italian

Standard Italian is based on Tuscan dialects and is somewhere between the dialects of southern Italy and the Gallo-Roman dialects of the north. Beyond Italy, Italian is spoken in San Marino, some cantons of Switzerland, the Vatican State and some parts of Slovenia and Croatia. Italian words which have developed from Latin are often easier to recognize than French words with a Latin origin since unlike French, Italian has maintained final-syllable emphasis in many words.

Prior to translation and interpretation

Before ordering a translation or interpreter, it is a good idea to know which country the translated material will be used in and which country the person to be interpreted comes from. This is particularly important for translations into languages which are spoken in many different countries, since the same language may be written differently and in some cases with different alphabets.
