There are many different spelling alphabets for each language, and we have chosen the civilian variants that are based largely on people's names.

Another common English spelling alphabet is NATO's phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie...), which has military origins and is also used in maritime and radio communication contexts.
