The program divides the files into segments (usually a sentence) and then compares these segments in the original document (in the source language) with the segments in the translation document (in the target language). The segments are paired so that a link is created between each source and target segment. These segment pairs are then checked by a translator who ensures that the program has linked the source and target language segments correctly. The segment pairs can then be imported into a translation memory.
