Germanic languages

The Germanic languages are a group of languages in the Indo-European language family comprising around 50 different languages.

The Germanic languages spoken today are divided into the subgroups West Germanic languages (including English, German and Afrikaans) and North Germanic languages (the Nordic languages). These languages have around 600 million mother-tongue users in the world and are spoken mainly in northern Europe, the North American subcontinent and Australia. Maltese is the only Semitic language in the world written in the Latin alphabet.
