Machine translation

Machine translation entails translation with the help of a machine, usually a computer.

The machine translated text in most instances then requires editing. For some kinds of documents, machine translation can save time.
Machine translation can be used for example for documents that use formal or formulaic language, such as technical manuals.

Development continues, but the limitations of technology when dealing with natural languages have thus far meant that machine translation is not used to any great extent. The translations produced are in the best case understandable, but do not come anywhere near what a human translator can achieve.
