Markup Languages

A markup language is a set of rules describing in technical terms how a document may specify information about its structure and processing and/or the presentation of the content.

Markups comprise everything in a document/file that is not content, such as tags in XML.
  Examples of markup languages are XML, SGML, XHTML, HTML, SVG, WML, RTF and RDF.
