Official language

A country's official language is the language in which its laws, judgements and official rulings are written and is used by the country's government and administrations.

Not all countries have an official language. For example, Sweden and the United Kingdom do not have an official language, but Swedish and English function as de facto official languages for the respective countries. Organizations like the EU and UN also have official languages; in the UN's case, Arabic, English, French, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish.
