Translation memory

(Eng. TM, translation memory)

A database in which translations are stored with their source text so that they can be reused.

Translated sentences/segments are stored paired with their translations in the target language. Segment pairs are termed translation units. When a new source text is to be translated, the translator receives automatically suggestions from the previous translation showing what is different in relation to the new text and what is the same. New and updated translations are then saved together in the database and the translation memory grows as the translator translates.
