XLIFF

XML Localization Interchange File Format

XLIFF is a standard for an XML-based file format intended for material that has been extracted for translation.

The reason for using XLIFF is to have a general file format for translation instead of being forced to work with many different original formats (HTML, RTF etc) in CAT tools.
